October 11, 2008 will allow Hokie fans to take a break from football and enjoy a day for the dogs! Pawsitive Hokeez and the Cancer Research Staff at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine will be sponsoring The Dog Walk Against Cancer. A fun event that brings dogs and owners together in an effort to raise funds for students and their research projects. The Center for Comparative Oncology is a cancer research based organization within Virginia Tech's Veterinarian College that uses cancer research projects with animals to discover cures that can be related back to human treatments. Come on out and enjoy a day of education and fun with all the dogs and staff from Virginia Tech while helping to continue their research. Click here to get all the info and registration forms.

Animal Assistance
Pawsitive Hokeez? Virginia Tech Alumni that love animals and take action to ensure their welfare. How do we inspire all of you to help us help the tortured souls out there that cannot help themselves? I guess just tell you about ourselves and the various programs we have to affect change in the area of animal neglect and abuse. The pictures you see above are cases of neglect that we witness everyday on our drives to and from work. Please visit our Success Stories page for more details.

We need you to be an initial and annual donor to our newly formed non-profit that works to end animal abuse and neglect, provides assistance to similar organizations, and raises money to benefit educational programs and cancer research within the Veterinarian College at Virginia Tech. Why support our organization? The question is why not support an organization that aspires to make living conditions for animals the best they can possibly be, why not support an organization that aspires to help students achieve their dreams without being buried in debt, and why not support an organization that aspires to be a part of finding cures for various types of cancer through comparative treatments between animals and humans? Hey, why not? It's a small amount per year that will be tax deductible, it will benefit our local community, money will benefit our future Hokies and their studies, you will be elgible for our various giveaways and prizes for donors, donors will also be elgible for assistance if their pet requires costly treatments, and imagine the Hokie pride you will feel when you can say that you were a part of research that found cures for cancer!
When my wife and I moved here from Virginia Beach, it was originally for the better lifestyle I knew we would find amongst many Hokies and all people in Southwest Virginia and to eventually open our own business. At first we considered opening a for profit boarding kennel on our farm in Floyd, but as we continued our current careers we found ourselves doing animal rescues as we could handle them and our plans began to change. We realized that what really made us happy was to help defenseless animals, work with other groups that have similar goals, and somehow get involved with educational programs at our favorite school... Virginia Tech of course!
I have always had a tremendous amount of pride in my school, especially with the growth of our football program. You can see me, my wife, and my brother at all of the home games in the front row right above where our beloved Hokies exit the field at halftime and the end of games. I'm the one standing and yelling for every "key" play. Up until recently I didn't realize some of the other amazing things going on at our school and I really began to notice in an emotional way just how great our Virginia Tech community (faculty & students) is after the tragic events of April 16. I wanted to find a way to be a bigger part of helping students that are accomplishing amazing things that do not require throwing or catching a football, but may uncover cures for diseases that affect us and our beloved pets. We can't accomplish anything without your help. If you are interested in supporting our efforts and

Pawsitive Hokeez participates in rescuing 200 puppies from puppy mill in Virginia. Christy Smith, Shelley Pittman of Pawsitive Hokeez help Mike of Best Friends (www.bestfriends.org) who purchased the puppies from the mill, stand by the truck to take the puppies to a no-kill-sanctuary in New York.
